Jane’s Walk Proposal
Little Manila Neighbourhood, Toronto
At the intersection of Bathurst St and Wilson Ave is Little Manila. Historically a Russian-Jewish neighbourhood dating before WW2, Filipinos settled rapidly in the area from the 1960s onward due to changes in Canada’s immigration policies ( Heritage Toronto). Such changes massively altered Toronto and contributed to the reputation for diversity it holds today. Like many of Toronto’s cultural burrows, it is important to study the markers and themes of diversity in Little Manila for better city-building overall.
This Jane’s Walk Proposal consists of a neighbourhood passport that guides visitors through Little Manila to learn about Filipino culture in the area and ask pertinent planning-related questions to get everyone thinking about the neighbourhood from a city-building perspective.
